 CASE STUDY - JORDAN    

Jordan Valley Food Company is a food processing factory based in Amman, Jordan preparing and packing broad beans, chickpeas and kidney beans. The factory was experiencing severe scale build up and corrosion problems on the inside of the steam boiler, due to the factory being based in a hard water area. Scale in steam boilers has been a perennial problem that until now has not been able to be solved by physical water conditioners.  
The management decided to run a three month trial with a revolutionary water conditioning unit that can actually provide protection for steam boilers. Hydropath’s Hydroflow S45 was easily installed on the water inlet pipe entering the steam boiler, without the need for incision or downtime.

Results were recorded prior to the unit being fitted, and following the 12 week trial to allow comparison.  Before the installation, the pipes were covered in thick brown scale and what was described as ‘a huge amount of rust and corrosion’.

Following the installation of the Hydroflow S45, the depth of the existing scale was dramatically reduced, and the surface of the pipes was described as ‘very smooth’.  Improvements were also noted in terms of reduced cleaning and maintenance time, and decreased operating costs due to less energy wasted heating up limescale.

The S45 unit also performed well when the hard feed water pipe was used.  It was concluded that the 3-month trial was successful at the factory, and the Hydroflow system will be continued to be used at the site.

 CASE STUDY - FRANCE    BOSTIK S.A.

The international Bostik S.A. company, industrial manufacturer of adhesives, uses a 1.500 Kg/h steam boiler, running 24 hours per day five days per week, for the its production needsThe steam boiler is protected against scale deposits by the traditional systems of water treatment; resin’s softener and chemical anti corrosion treatment.

The test was performed on a fire-tube steam boiler without condensate return feed by the mains raw water from the city. The steam boiler was installed by the ITHERM Company who insures its periodic maintenance.
The test, supervised by director of the Bostik’s technical department and by the ITHERM’s technicians, was set up in order to demonstrate the proper functioning of the Hydropath technology as a full replacement of all traditional water treatment previously installed. 
The unit’s ferrite ring, as shown in the above picture, was simply placed around the pipe connecting the high pressure pump to the steam boiler without any other intervention on the installation. At the same time all other existing water treatment; softener and chemical additives, were bypassed leaving only the
Hydropath unit to protect the steam boiler against scale deposits and corrosion. 

The Hydropath unit was installed on June 17th 2005 and the steam boiler opened to verify the state of the fire tubes. As shown below, there was a thin deposit of scale on the fire tubes which was partially filed away to later verify the action of the technology to effectively remove the scale and prevent new scale deposits. A molecular film of magnetite (iron oxide) will form over the exposed zone to protect the tubes against corrosion.

As verified by the technicians supervising it, the test fully proved that the Hydropath technology advantageously replaces the traditional water treatment methods of scale prevention as well as the chemical treatment for corrosion prevention.

June 17th 2005 – Condition of the fire tubes.  The unit’s ferrite rings installed overinside the steam boiler (protected against the water input pipe.scale and corrosion by the traditional water systems).
July 29th 2005 – Condition of the fire tubes inside the steam boiler after 43 days with all traditional water treatment bypassed. The molecular magnetite film (brown zone) prevents corrosion on the fire tubes.

the beginning of the test, was reduced
to a fine powder (between 10 and
50 microns) which will not deposit
inside the steamboiler and will not form
a hard scale deposit
